Current Issue: Welcoming Spring!


Spring is undoubtedly here; buds, schools, our gardens, shops are all opening up…we’re feeling energised and optimistic about the year ahead….

The image (right), is a proposal for an extension to a barn conversion which considers the relationship between the dwelling, the views and the garden. We love this image and it’s helping us think of sunny days ahead!

On the Drawing Board

Designs for a Historic Farmstead in the South Downs National Park

JUNE 2020

We are working on designs for a historic farmstead in the South Downs National Park. The scheme includes sensitive modifications and extensions to the listed house, outbuildings to facilitate better use of a Grade 2* listed Great Barn, and an extensive    re-landscaping scheme working with Portus + Whitton Landscape architects to reinforce the historic character of the site whilst also opening views up to the Downs to make the most of the spectacular setting. . 

Designs for a House in Open Countryside within the Cotswold AONB

APRIL 2020

We are excited to be developing designs for a house in open countryside within the Cotswold AONB. Following Regenerative Design principles the house will harvest, store and share a third more energy that it will need through each year, by using innovative solar hydrogen technology.  As part of the proposal a new, publicly accessible Local Wildlife site will be established, enshrining appropriate landscape management, and significantly enhancing rare biodiversity.


12 Self-Build Homes in Norfolk


Our sister company LIVEDIN has been managing a development of 12 self-built homes in Norfolk. The homes are centred around a new village Green; a piece of land which previously had a small pond overgrown with invasive choking weed. 

A New Build House in the Cotswold AONB

JULY 2020

A new build house is nearing completion! The project has been onsite for the last year and the clients are looking forward to moving in. The landscaping works will be commencing soon and it will be fantastic to see the house starting to bed into the landscape.

Extensive Restoration and Conservation Works

JUNE 2020

We are working on a restoration and conservation project of a Tudor Manor with specialist contractors Ellis & Co and Specialist  sustainable, low energy building & engineering consultancy Greengauge who have worked out how the listed building can be heated efficiently.

Planning Granted

Stonehouse Court Hotel

Grade 2* Listed Stonehouse Court Hotel wins permission for a restaurant extension to the historic building, a courtyard of new bedrooms, and a new woodland eco spa.

Oxford Quaker Meeting House

A replacement extension, remodelling and refurbishment of the Quaker Meeting House in central Oxford has successfully been granted planning permission.

Two Replacement Dwellings

Planning has been granted for these replacement dwellings in the Chilterns. With stringent restrictions the houses needed to retain the openness of the greenbelt. 

A New Dower House

A new Dower house, located within the grounds of a cherished Grade 2* Listed Cotswold farmhouse has successfully been granted planning permission.

A Treehouse within a Protected Garden

A single-storey house, located on a site that contains two listed buildings and several protected trees has been awarded planning permission.

Projects Revisited

Horsley Hill


One of our private homes for a family in a small Cotswold village at the top of a valley, providing a series of linked, dual aspect, light-flooded spaces which flow through the site taking in the incredible views of the landscaped garden and across the valley.

The Hen House


Tom Howard, co-director of MHW, designed and built a house in his Dad’s beloved garden for his parents. The story of how the family managed to ensure the experience remained rosy was recently featured in the Telegraph.
