Millar + Howard Workshop has won a Gloucestershire CPRE award for the renovation of Horsley church for use by the School and Community as well as the worshipping congregation. The Horsley 3in1 project was first conceived 10 around years ago with the core aims of providing the village primary school with a fit for purpose school hall, providing long term sustainable income for the church, and providing a multi-functional space for the wider community. The church was seen as a valuable, if underused asset. Essentially what has happened is that the school have taken out a 25 year lease on the church building for use during school hours, and in return the building has been refurbished to provide excellent heating, lighting, toilets, kitchen, storage, sound and projection facilities, and flexibility to make it fit for purpose. The added spin-off is that the building can also be hired out during evenings, weekends, and holidays for events, thus providing a welcome income stream for the church. The project also has done the job of putting the church building back at the heart of the community.
